Will the MP4 loop like the GIF did?

Does it keep transparency?

No. MP4/H.264 has no alpha channel, so transparent GIF areas become solid. Use GIF to WebP if you need transparency.

Why convert GIF to MP4?

An MP4 of the same animation is often 5–10× smaller than the GIF thanks to modern video compression, and it plays back more smoothly. Many social platforms convert GIFs to MP4 behind the scenes for this reason.

How it works

The GIF frames are re-encoded to H.264 with a yuv420p pixel format for maximum player compatibility. Odd dimensions are padded to even values, which the codec requires.
