What is a ZIP archive?

ZIP is the most common archive format — a single .zip file that bundles many files and folders together with lossless compression. It is what most download links, email attachments, and exports arrive as.

Why extract in the browser?

Desktop unzip tools work, but uploading a ZIP to a website to open it is a privacy risk. Convertur unpacks the archive locally so confidential documents, source code, or design files never touch a server.

How extraction works

The ZIP central directory is read in the browser and each entry is decompressed with the DEFLATE algorithm. You get a full file listing with sizes, per-file downloads, and a one-click re-bundle of everything as a fresh ZIP.

Quality and compatibility

Standard DEFLATE and stored ZIP entries are supported, including nested folders. Encrypted (password-protected) archives cannot be opened without the password and are not supported.

How to unzip zip files

  1. Drop a .zip file into the zone above, or click to browse.
  2. Convertur reads the archive locally and lists every file inside.
  3. Download any single file, or press Download all as ZIP.
  4. Nothing is uploaded — extraction happens entirely on your device.
