Why remove audio from a video?

Silent clips work well as background loops and for social autoplay. Muting also helps when a recording picked up wind, chatter or other noise you don't want to share. Dropping the audio track makes the file a little smaller too.

How to remove audio from a video

Drop one or more videos above and press Convert. The audio track is dropped and the video stream is copied as is. There is no re-encode and no change in quality, so even a long video is done in one fast pass. Download the muted file, or all of them as a ZIP.

Same format as your original

The muted video keeps the container and video codec of your input. An MP4 stays an MP4 and a MOV stays a MOV, and it plays everywhere the original did. To replace the sound instead of removing it, use Add or Replace Video Audio. The muted file is about the size of the original minus its audio track.

Before you start

Input: MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, and M4V. Output: muted video. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.

Video work uses a lot of memory and CPU. Try a short clip first and check that the sound and playback work. On a phone, split large batches into smaller ones.
