Record audio in your browser
Online voice recorder. Record your voice or any sound from your microphone, play it back, then save an MP3 or the browser's original file.
A simple online voice recorder
This page records audio only. That can be your voice, an interview, an instrument or any sound your microphone picks up. Press Start recording and allow microphone access when the browser asks. Press Stop recording when you're done. The take appears in a player so you can listen before you save it. You don't need an account, the recorder sets no time limit, and the recording stays in this browser tab.
How to record audio and save it as MP3
Browsers record in their own format. Chrome usually uses WebM and Safari uses M4A. Download MP3 turns the take into an MP3 of about 192 kbps that opens in any player, editor or messaging app. The second button saves the browser's original file as it is. That is faster and skips a second encode if your editing app already accepts the format.
Choosing the microphone
The recorder uses your browser's default microphone. To use a USB microphone or headset, set it as the input device in your system sound settings. You can also pick it in the browser's permission prompt or site settings when it offers a choice. Then reload the page.
Tips for a clean voice recording
A few habits matter more than any setting:
- Record a few seconds first and play them back to check the level and background noise.
- Keep a steady distance from the microphone and turn off nearby fans and notifications.
- Download the take before you close or reload the tab. Recordings are not saved automatically.
- Clean it up afterwards with Trim Audio, Reduce Audio Noise or Normalize Audio.
Need to record your screen or webcam?
This voice recorder captures sound from your microphone only. To record your screen or webcam, with or without microphone audio, use the screen and webcam recorder.
Before you start
Input: MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, WEBM, and AMR. Output: recording. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.
Converting audio can change the codec, bitrate, channels, tags and length. Listen to the start and end of the result. Keep a lossless original if you may edit it again.
Keep the original until you have opened and checked the result. The work happens in this browser tab, so the size you can handle depends on your device's memory, your browser and the file itself.
