How to cut an MP3

Drop an MP3 above. It loads into a player so you can listen and find the part you want. Drag the Start slider to where the clip should begin and the End slider to where it should stop. The selection is shown as a time range under the sliders. Press Trim audio and download the clip. The same steps work for WAV, M4A, FLAC, AAC, OGG and other formats.

Cutting without quality loss

The selected range is copied out of the file rather than decoded and encoded again, so the clip has exactly the quality of the original and keeps its format. An MP3 gives you an MP3 and a WAV gives you a WAV. In compressed formats such as MP3, a cut can land a few hundredths of a second from the slider position, because it snaps to the nearest audio frame.

Tips for clean cuts

Place the cut points in a quiet moment between words or beats to avoid a click. If the clip starts or ends abruptly, run it through Fade Audio afterwards for a half-second fade. To cut one file into several parts in one go, use Split Audio with a list of timestamps.
