What is AMR?

AMR stands for Adaptive Multi-Rate. It is a codec built for speech, long used by phone voice recorders, call recording apps and MMS messages. It keeps voice files tiny at bitrates as low as 4.75 to 12.2 kbps, but it only captures the frequency range of a phone call.

How to convert AMR to MP3

Why convert AMR to MP3?

Most computers, media players and modern apps can't open AMR, and transcription services rarely accept it. An MP3 copy lets you play, share, transcribe or archive an old voice recording anywhere.

Quality notes

AMR is a low-bitrate speech codec, so the source is already limited. The MP3 keeps the voice clear but can't add detail that was never recorded. Use Normalize Audio afterwards if the recording is quiet, and Reduce Audio Noise if it has steady hiss.

Converting audio can change the codec, bitrate, channels, tags and length. Listen to the start and end of the result. Keep a lossless original if you may edit it again.
