What converting to stereo does

The tool saves the audio as a two-channel MP3. A mono source is copied to both left and right, so it sounds the same in a stereo file and plays centered. Files with more than two channels, such as 5.1 surround tracks, are mixed down to two.

How to convert mono to stereo

Drop the mono recording above and press Convert to stereo. The audio is decoded in your browser, written to two channels and saved as an MP3 at about 190 kbps. Download it and import it wherever a stereo file is required.

When you need a stereo file

Some video editors, DJ apps, radio playout systems and upload forms expect stereo audio and reject or mishandle mono files. A mono voice-over dropped onto a stereo timeline can play only in the left ear in some editors. Converting to stereo first avoids those channel mismatches when you combine it with music or other stereo tracks.

Before you start

Input: MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, WEBM, and AMR. Output: stereo MP3. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.

Converting audio can change the codec, bitrate, channels, tags and length. Listen to the start and end of the result. Keep a lossless original if you may edit it again.

Keep the original until you have opened and checked the result. The work happens in this browser tab, so the size you can handle depends on your device's memory, your browser and the file itself.
