What burning subtitles means

Burned-in, or hardcoded, subtitles are drawn into the picture itself. They show on every device and site, including Instagram, TikTok and messaging apps that ignore separate subtitle files. The trade-off is that viewers can't turn them off or switch language.

How to add subtitles to a video permanently

Drop the video above, then choose an .srt, .vtt or .ass file under Subtitle file. Press Convert. Each cue is drawn in white Inter text with a black outline, centered near the bottom of the frame, at a size that scales with the video height. The result is an H.264 MP4 with AAC audio.

Check timing first

Burned-in subtitles can't be fixed afterwards, so check the timing before you convert. Open the subtitle file in the subtitle editor, preview it on the video and shift or retime the cues if they are early or late. ASS fonts, colours and positions are not used, only the timing and text.

Processed on your device

Burn SRT, VTT or ASS subtitles into an MP4 so they show in every player and on every social site, with no subtitle file needed. A media engine inside your browser does the work, so the video never leaves your device.

Works in your browser

Video encoding runs in this browser tab, on your own device. There is no upload and no queue. Your device does all the work, so a large or long clip can take a minute or more.

Before you start

Input: MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, AVI, and M4V. Output: subtitled MP4. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.

Video work uses a lot of memory and CPU. Try a short clip first and check that the sound and playback work. On a phone, split large batches into smaller ones.

Keep the original until you have opened and checked the result. The work happens in this browser tab, so the size you can handle depends on your device's memory, your browser and the file itself.
