Speed up audio without the chipmunk effect

The tool uses FFmpeg's atempo filter. It changes playback speed but keeps the pitch, so a faster voice still sounds natural and a slower song stays in the same key.

How to change audio speed

Drop an audio file above and move the Speed slider. It runs from 0.5×, half speed, to 2×, double speed, in steps of 0.05. The default is 1.5×. Press Change speed and download the MP3, saved at about 190 kbps. To try a different speed, move the slider and press the button again.

When to change audio speed

Speed up lectures, audiobooks and podcasts to get through them faster. Slow down music to learn a solo or transcribe lyrics, or slow down a language lesson or a fast speaker to follow every word. Musicians often practise along at 0.75× before playing at full speed.

How speed changes the length

At 2×, a 60-minute file becomes 30 minutes. At 0.5×, it becomes 2 hours. At 1.25×, a 60-minute podcast takes 48 minutes, and at 1.5× it takes 40.

Before you start

Input: MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, WEBM, and AMR. Output: MP3. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.

Converting audio can change the codec, bitrate, channels, tags and length. Listen to the start and end of the result. Keep a lossless original if you may edit it again.

Keep the original until you have opened and checked the result. The work happens in this browser tab, so the size you can handle depends on your device's memory, your browser and the file itself.

Steps to change audio speed

1. Drop an audio file into the zone above.
2. Set the speed between 0.5× and 2×. Below 1× slows it down and above 1× speeds it up.
3. Press Change speed, then download the MP3.
