How audio compression works

Lowering the bitrate tells the MP3 encoder to use fewer bits per second of audio. Fewer bits mean a smaller file, at the cost of some high-frequency detail.

Which bitrate should I pick?

For music, 192 kbps is near-transparent and 128 kbps is a solid balance. For speech and podcasts, 96 or 64 kbps cuts the size sharply while staying clear.

Privacy

Compression happens entirely on your device with ffmpeg.wasm. Your audio is never uploaded to a server.
