What are CBZ and CBR files?

CBZ and CBR are comic book archives. A CBZ is a ZIP file and a CBR is a RAR file, and a CB7 is a 7z file. Inside, each page is a separate image, named so the pages sort in reading order. Comic reader apps open them as books, but most other apps don't. A PDF opens almost anywhere, from web browsers to printers and e-readers, which is why people convert a comic archive to PDF.

How to convert CBZ or CBR to PDF

Drop the comic above and press Convert all. The tool checks the first bytes of the file rather than trusting its extension, because many .cbr files are really ZIPs. ZIP comics open with fflate. RAR and 7z comics open with 7-Zip compiled to WebAssembly, running in a background worker. The JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF pages are sorted by file name and each one goes on its own PDF page at its original size.

Image quality

JPG and PNG pages go into the PDF unchanged, with no recompression. WebP and GIF pages are saved as JPG at quality 92 first, because PDF can't hold those formats. Hidden files and macOS __MACOSX folders inside the archive are skipped, and so are files that aren't images, such as ComicInfo.xml.
