What is a fillable PDF form?

An AcroForm PDF has interactive fields such as text boxes, checkboxes, radio buttons and dropdowns. You fill them in on screen instead of printing the form and writing by hand.

Why fill PDF forms here?

How to fill a PDF form online

Drop a fillable PDF above. pdf-lib finds every field and its type, and a matching input appears for each one: text boxes, checkboxes, dropdowns, option lists and radio groups, with any existing values filled in. Type your answers, then download the filled PDF. Flatten is on by default, which makes the answers part of the page so they can't be changed later. Turn it off to keep the fields editable.

Forms that won't work

Scanned forms and PDFs that were flattened before you got them have no fields to fill. Forms built with Adobe's XFA technology, used by some government agencies, also aren't supported. For those, use Adobe Acrobat Reader, or print the form and fill it by hand.

Input: PDF. Output: PDF. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.

These formats often follow rules set by one app or device. Test the result where it will be used, and keep the source in case you need to export it again.
