How the volume boost works

The tool multiplies the audio level by the factor you pick, from 1× to 5× in steps of 0.1. At 2×, the signal is twice as strong, which is about 6 dB louder. At 4×, it is about 12 dB louder. The boosted audio is saved as an MP3 at about 192 kbps.

How to make an MP3 louder

Drop the MP3 or other audio file above. Move the slider to 1.5× or 2× for a start, press Boost volume and listen to the result. If it is still too quiet and sounds clean, go higher. If you hear crackle or distortion on loud words or beats, lower the factor and try again.

Watch for clipping

Boosting too far pushes loud peaks past the maximum level, and that causes distortion called clipping. A recording with one loud moment and long quiet stretches can only be raised a little before that moment clips. Normalize Audio handles those files better.

When to normalize instead

If you want a set loudness rather than a fixed boost, use Normalize Audio. It measures the whole file and brings it to a LUFS target, such as -16 for podcasts, with true-peak protection that stops clipping.

Before you start

Input: MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, WEBM, and AMR. Output: MP3. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.

Converting audio can change the codec, bitrate, channels, tags and length. Listen to the start and end of the result. Keep a lossless original if you may edit it again.
