How to convert Markdown to PDF

Drop a .md file above or paste Markdown into the box. Press Create PDF. The Markdown is turned into HTML with marked, placed in a hidden print view with a print stylesheet, and your browser's print dialog opens. Choose "Save as PDF" as the destination, pick the paper size and save.

Why it uses the print dialog

Your browser already has a full layout engine. Printing through it gives you a real PDF with proper page breaks, selectable and searchable text, working links and the paper size you pick. It also means this page doesn't have to load a large PDF library, and the result looks like a browser render rather than a rough approximation.

Styling included

The print stylesheet uses a clean system sans-serif font at 12 pt with 20 mm margins. Headings get clear sizes, code blocks get a light grey background in a monospace font, blockquotes get a left rule, tables get borders and images are scaled to fit the page width. GitHub flavored tables, task lists and strikethrough are supported.

Tips for better PDFs

Turn off headers and footers in the print dialog to remove the date and page address from the margins. Turn on background graphics if code block shading doesn't show. Long code lines wrap or scroll off the page edge in print, so break them in the Markdown if they matter.

Before you start

Input: MD and MARKDOWN. Output: PDF. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.

A document conversion may not keep every font, layout rule, embedded object, subtitle cue or app-specific feature. Read through the full result before you send or submit it.

Keep the original until you have opened and checked the result. The work happens in this browser tab, so the size you can handle depends on your device's memory, your browser and the file itself.
