The image stays on your device

The image is drawn on a canvas in your browser and read with a local scanning library. Nothing is uploaded, so it's safe for codes that hold private links or passwords.

If the code won't read

Crop the image so the QR code fills most of it, and make sure the whole code is visible, including the three corner squares. Blurry photos, strong glare and very low resolution screenshots can fail. Codes with inverted colors, light on dark, may also fail. Try a sharper photo taken straight on.

Before you start

QR Code Reader works on the text or values you enter. Output: Decoded content. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.

The value you enter is processed in your browser. Still test the output where it will be used. Clean formatting does not prove the data is safe or correct.
