Add page numbers to a PDF

What this adds

A small page number is drawn on each page in the position you choose. Formats are a plain number, Page 1, or 1 / N with the total page count. Positions are top or bottom, each at the left, center or right.

How to add page numbers to a PDF

Drop the PDF above. Choose a position, a format, the number to start at and a font size between 7 and 24 points. Press Add page numbers and download the numbered copy. Numbers sit 28 points in from the edge of each page, in dark grey Helvetica.

Choose where numbering starts

Set the starting number to skip a cover page or to continue from an earlier volume. The count goes up by one on each page after that. With Start at set to 0, the cover reads 0 and the second page reads 1. Every page gets a number, including the cover.

Page quality

Numbers are drawn as real text, so they stay sharp at any zoom and can be found with a search. The rest of the page is not changed, and the original file stays untouched.

Before you start

Input: PDF. Output: Numbered PDF. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.

If layout, notes, forms, signatures or fonts matter, check the new PDF page by page. A file that opens is not the same as a file that looks right.

Keep the original until you have opened and checked the result. The work happens in this browser tab, so the size you can handle depends on your device's memory, your browser and the file itself.

Steps to add page numbers to a PDF
