Why convert JPG to PNG?

PNG is lossless. After you convert, you can edit and save again as often as you like without adding more JPG compression. Many tools also expect PNG for logos, screenshots, stickers and graphics, and some upload forms ask for PNG by name.

How to convert JPG to PNG

Drop the .jpg or .jpeg files above and press Convert all. Your browser decodes each photo, applies the camera's rotation tag so it comes out upright, and writes the pixels into a PNG. There are no settings to choose, because PNG output is always lossless. Download the files one by one or as a single ZIP.

What converting can and can't do

Converting won't bring back detail the JPG already lost, and it won't remove existing JPG blockiness. It only stops further loss from here on. The PNG is an exact copy of the decoded JPG pixels. It also has no transparency, since a JPG never had any. To cut out the background, run the PNG through the background remover.

File size

The PNG is usually several times bigger than the JPG because it stores every pixel without loss. Use PNG when you plan to edit. Keep JPG when you just need a small photo to share. EXIF data such as the date taken and location is not copied into the PNG.

A format change can affect compression, transparency, color and metadata. Zoom in on fine detail and transparent areas in the result. Work on a copy if the photo is one you want to keep.
