What does resizing do?
Resizing changes the pixel dimensions of an image. Scaling down makes a smaller, lighter file; scaling up stretches the existing pixels, which can soften fine detail.
Why resize an image?
Upload forms, avatars, thumbnails, and printers all expect specific dimensions. Resizing to the target size up front avoids awkward cropping and keeps files as small as they need to be.
Quality & compatibility notes
Keep the aspect ratio locked to avoid stretching. Downscaling is essentially lossless in perception; only upscale when you truly need larger dimensions.
