What is HEIC?
HEIC is the container Apple uses for photos taken on iPhone and iPad. It stores images with modern HEVC compression, so files are roughly half the size of an equivalent JPG.
Why convert HEIC to JPG?
JPG opens everywhere — old software, web forms, Windows machines, print shops. Converting is the quickest fix when an upload form or a colleague can’t open your photo.
Quality & compatibility notes
At 85% quality the difference is invisible for photos while files stay small. Keep metadata on if you need dates and locations; turn it off before sharing publicly.
