What cropping does

Cropping cuts away the edges of an image and keeps the area you select. The pixels inside the box are saved at full resolution. Nothing is scaled, so a 600 × 600 selection from a 12 megapixel photo comes out exactly 600 × 600.

How to crop an image

Drop an image above. A crop box appears over a preview that fits your screen. Drag inside the box to move it and drag a corner to resize it. The size of the selection in real pixels is shown as you drag, so you can match the size a form or profile page asks for. Press Download crop to save it.

Why crop an image?

Remove clutter at the edges, fix the framing, cut a screenshot down to the part that matters, or fit a set shape for a profile picture or thumbnail. A good crop often does more for a photo than any filter.

Format and quality

The cropped file keeps the original format. PNG crops are lossless. JPG and WebP crops are saved again at quality 92, which keeps them visually identical to the original. The selection itself is never resized. If you also need a smaller size, run the crop through the image resizer.

Before you start

Input: JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WEBP. Output: Cropped. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.

Pick the size and quality for where the image will end up. Resizing before strong compression usually keeps more visible detail. Keep an untouched original so you can export again later.
