Convert PNG to SVG
Convert PNG to SVG by tracing the image into editable vector paths. Best for logos, icons and flat artwork. Works with WebP too, all in your browser.
How PNG to SVG conversion works
A PNG is a grid of pixels. An SVG is a list of shapes. Converting one to the other means tracing. The tool reduces the image to 16 colours, finds the outline of each colour area, and writes those outlines as smooth paths. The result is a real vector file you can scale, recolour and edit in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma or a code editor. It is not a PNG wrapped inside an SVG, which is what many online converters return.
How to convert PNG to SVG
Drop a PNG or WebP above and press Convert all. ImageTracer runs in your browser and builds the SVG in a few seconds for a typical logo. Download the file and open it in your editor to check the shapes. Small specks under 8 points long are dropped, which keeps the paths clean. Images up to 4 megapixels and 20 MB are accepted.
What traces well and what doesn't
Logos, icons, stamps, signatures, line art and flat illustrations with a few solid colours trace cleanly. Photos, soft gradients and drop shadows don't, because every shade becomes another patch of shapes and the SVG gets large and blotchy. For those, keep the PNG. If a logo sits on a busy background, remove the background first so the tracer only sees the mark.
Tips for a cleaner trace
Start from the largest, sharpest version of the image you have. Upscale small or blurry icons before tracing, since jagged pixels turn into jagged paths. Cut away anything you don't need with the cropper. After tracing, merge or delete stray shapes in your vector editor and set exact brand colours there.
Before you start
Input: PNG and WEBP. Output: SVG. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.
Pick the size and quality for where the image will end up. Resizing before strong compression usually keeps more visible detail. Keep an untouched original so you can export again later.
Keep the original until you have opened and checked the result. The work happens in this browser tab, so the size you can handle depends on your device's memory, your browser and the file itself.
