Why convert PNG to WebP?

WebP usually makes much smaller files than PNG at the same visual quality. Pages load faster, use less bandwidth and score better on page speed tests, and transparency still works. Screenshots and photos saved as PNG shrink the most.

How to convert PNG to WebP

Drop the .png files above and press Convert all. Your browser decodes each PNG and encodes it with its built-in WebP encoder at quality 85. That setting is lossy, which is where most of the saving comes from, but for photos, screenshots and most graphics the change is hard to see. Transparent pixels stay transparent.

When WebP is the right choice

Use WebP for web graphics, product photos, blog images and hero banners where file size matters. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all display it. Keep the PNG as your master copy, and keep using PNG for files that go into apps that don't read WebP, or for pixel art that must stay exact.

A format change can affect compression, transparency, color and metadata. Zoom in on fine detail and transparent areas in the result. Work on a copy if the photo is one you want to keep.
