Convert SRT to ASS
Convert SRT to ASS subtitles with a ready-made default style. Edit the result in Aegisub or use it for styled captions. Runs in your browser, no upload.
What is ASS?
Advanced SubStation Alpha, or .ass, is a subtitle format with styling. It supports fonts, colors, outlines, exact positions, rotation, fades and karaoke effects. Aegisub, anime fansub groups and players such as VLC and mpv use it.
How to convert SRT to ASS
Drop an .srt file above and press Convert. Each SRT cue becomes a Dialogue line with the same start and end time, rounded to the hundredths of a second ASS uses. Multi-line cues are joined with the \N line break marker. Download the .ass file and open it in Aegisub or load it in your player.
The default style
The file has [Script Info], [V4+ Styles] and [Events] sections. The script resolution is 640 × 480 and one style named Default is defined: white Arial at size 28 with a 2 pixel black outline, centered at the bottom with 10 pixel margins. Every line uses that style. Change the Style line, or restyle everything in Aegisub, to match your video.
Why convert SRT to ASS
An .ass file lets you restyle plain SRT captions. You can change the font, add an outline or background box, move signs to the top of the screen or time karaoke. It is also the format to use when you burn styled subtitles into a video with FFmpeg or HandBrake.
Before you start
Input: SRT. Output: ASS. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.
A document conversion may not keep every font, layout rule, embedded object, subtitle cue or app-specific feature. Read through the full result before you send or submit it.
Keep the original until you have opened and checked the result. The work happens in this browser tab, so the size you can handle depends on your device's memory, your browser and the file itself.
Steps to convert SRT to ASS
- Drop your .srt file into the box above, or click to pick it.
