Extract Original Video Audio
Extract audio from a video without re-encoding. The soundtrack is copied as is into M4A, MP3, Opus, OGG or FLAC. Nothing is uploaded.
How to extract audio from a video without losing quality
Drop a video above and press Convert. The tool reads which codec the first audio track uses and copies it, packet for packet, into a matching audio file. Nothing is decoded or encoded, so the sound is bit-identical to the video's soundtrack and even a long film finishes in seconds.
Which file you get
The format follows the codec inside the video:
- AAC audio, used by most MP4 and MOV files and every iPhone video, becomes an .m4a file.
- MP3 audio becomes an .mp3 file.
- Opus audio, common in WebM and MKV, becomes an .opus file, and Vorbis becomes .ogg.
- FLAC becomes .flac and 16-bit PCM becomes .wav.
- Other codecs, such as AC-3 or DTS from films, are copied into an .mka Matroska audio file.
Extract original audio or convert to MP3?
Use this tool when quality matters, for example to archive a concert recording or to edit the soundtrack. Use MP4 to MP3 when you need an MP3 specifically, since that re-encodes the sound into MP3 at the bitrate you choose. An M4A with AAC plays on iPhone, Android, Windows and in every modern browser, so for most uses the original track is the better file.
Processed on your device
Extract audio from a video without re-encoding. The soundtrack is copied as is into M4A, MP3, Opus, OGG or FLAC. A media engine inside your browser does the work, so the video never leaves your device.
Works in your browser
Video encoding runs in this browser tab, on your own device. There is no upload and no queue. Your device does all the work, so a large or long clip can take a minute or more.
Before you start
Input: MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, AVI, and M4V. Output: original audio. The settings appear before anything runs, so you can check them first. Your original file is never changed.
Video work uses a lot of memory and CPU. Try a short clip first and check that the sound and playback work. On a phone, split large batches into smaller ones.
Keep the original until you have opened and checked the result. The work happens in this browser tab, so the size you can handle depends on your device's memory, your browser and the file itself.
