Resolution and quality

Pages render at twice their PDF size, which is 144 pixels per inch. A US Letter page becomes a 1224 × 1584 pixel JPG and an A4 page about 1190 × 1684. That is sharp on screens and fine for most documents and slides. Each page is saved as a JPG at quality 90 on a white background.

Why convert PDF to JPG?

Images are easy to put into slides, chat messages, social posts and web pages, and they preview in any photo app. Converting a single page to JPG is also the quickest way to share one page of a long document. JPG suits pages that are mostly photos or scans.

JPG or PNG for PDF pages?

JPG files are smaller. For pages full of small text, charts, line drawings or screenshots, PDF to PNG keeps edges crisper because it adds no compression artifacts. Both options render at the same resolution.
